The Few, The Proud

I've been wanting to post this song/lyrics since I heard it several months ago, but just haven't taken the time ... and today, on this 236th Birthday of the Marine Corps, is the BEST time anyway. It is hard to listen to the lyrics of this song and not get goosebumps. Maybe because we just came from Parris Island where I saw and met "first-hand" so many amazing Marines. Maybe it's because I'm married to one of these Marines who would do anything for this country - yes, anything. I think I am particularly moved by it as I think of several friends right now who have their husbands deployed (a good friend whose husband just left 2 days ago). Maybe I'm moved by this song as I think of Chris's upcoming deployment - and just the sacrifices he makes for his LOVE of this country. Whatever the reason, it's hard to listen to this song and not have some sort of emotion follow. I'm proud of my Marine husband ... I'm THANKFUL that God called him to serve this country. I'm THANKFUL that through his career choice, I have met so many amazing men and women ... friends who really do become FAMILY.
Happy 236th Birthday Marine Corps (and especially Chris and Mr. Ashinhurst). There are none others like you.

*(just as an important side note, even though today is the Marine Corps birthday ... tomorrow is Veteran's Day ... and I'm not only thankful for Marines ... but all those who serve in the military - and the sacrifices they make. I don't think anyone truly understands these sacrifices w/o seeing them upclose and personal ... and I'm thankful beyond words for all those fighting to keep ME safe ... past, present, and future. It does not go unrecognized.)*

"Semper Fi" - Trace Adkins

He sat in that long line of barber chairs
And the sergeant asked him "Son, would you like to keep your hair?"
He said "Yes sir" as he heard those clippers buzz and hum
The sergeant said "Well hold out your hands, here it comes"

Semper Fi
Do or die
So gung-ho to go and pay the price
Here's to Leathernecks
Devil Dogs and Jarheads
Parris Island in July
Semper Fi

I sleep in my bed instead of a fox hole
I've never heard my boss tell me to lock and load
Ain't no bullet holes in the side of my SUV
'Cause the kid next door just shipped out overseas

Semper Fi
Do or die
So gung-ho to go and pay the price
Here's to Leathernecks
Devil Dogs and Jarheads
Parris Island in July
Semper Fi

For the few that wear the dress blues
Hair cut high and tight
Who are proud to be the first ones in the fight
Semper Fi

Semper Fi
Do or die
So gung-ho to go and pay the price
Here's to Leathernecks
Devil Dogs and Jarheads
Parris Island in July
Never leave a man behind
A great Marine for life
Semper Fi
